Pond lining is exactly what it sounds like; material with which to line your water garden pond. The pond lining is usually a heavy duty plastic or rubber sheet which keeps the water from draining quickly into the ground. After defining your pond area and digging it out, putting down your pond liner is generally the next step.
If you have purchased a Pond Kit, it will already contain a pond liner or a ready built pond body. However, if you are building from scratch, pond liner material is one of the items you will need to buy.
The usually favored pond lining material is EPDM(Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber. It is a relatively inexpensive synthetic rubber with the flexibility and durability you need for pond construction. Most often recommended is the 45 mil thickness. Thicker liners will not be as flexible, thinner liners may not be as durable and tear-proof. Calculate the area of your pond (length X width for rectangle-ish ponds, 2 X diamter X 3.14 for circular ponds, add length for the lip of the pond and odd shapes), and purchase the amount you need. Or buy a custom size cut to order.
Enjoy your garden pond for years with quality pond liner to keep your pond intact.
